Catch the spike, not the invoice.

billshock checks your AI and hosting spend every hour from your own GitHub Actions. When a runaway loop, a leaked key or a surprise build bill starts burning money, you hear about it the same day in Slack or Discord.

Monthly caps tell you too late

Provider budgets fire when you cross a monthly number. A bug that burns $600 in one afternoon looks normal against a $1,000 monthly cap until it doesn't. billshock compares each day to your own recent baseline, so an 8× day is an alert even when the total is still small.

Spike detection

Alert when a day costs more than N× the trailing 7-day average, with a minimum dollar floor so pennies don't page you.

Daily caps & budgets

Hard daily limits, a monthly budget, and a month-end projection, per provider or across all of them combined.

One place for every bill

OpenAI, Anthropic and Vercel in one config file and one alert channel instead of three dashboards.

How it works

01

Run npx billshock init

Creates billshock.yml and an hourly GitHub Actions workflow in your repo.

02

Add repo secrets

Admin keys for the providers you use, plus a Slack or Discord webhook. Skip any provider you don't use.

03

Get pinged once

Each anomaly is sent once. Without a webhook, the failed workflow run triggers GitHub's own email.

Your keys stay yours. billshock is MIT-licensed and runs entirely inside your GitHub Actions. Billing-admin keys live in your repo secrets and are only ever sent to the provider's own API.

Pricing

The CLI and Action are free forever. A hosted version for people who don't want to manage keys in CI is in development.

FAQ

Why does it need admin keys?

Cost and billing data is only exposed through organization-level admin APIs: OpenAI's Costs API, Anthropic's Usage & Cost API, and Vercel's billing charges endpoint. Regular API keys can't read spend. billshock only calls read endpoints.

How fast will I hear about a spike?

The workflow runs hourly. Providers publish cost data with some delay (often a few hours), so expect same-day alerts, not real-time ones.

Does it stop spending?

No. billshock alerts; it never changes limits or revokes keys. Pair it with your provider's hard spend limit as a backstop.

What does it cost to run?

Nothing extra. One short hourly job fits comfortably in GitHub's free Actions minutes for most accounts.

Will you add AWS / GCP / Supabase / Cloudflare?
